FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do you use conservation materials?
Yes! We exclusively use glass with the maximum 99% designated UV-protection, and all of our framing materials are designated “acid free” for contemporary conservation framing. As trained conservators, we are mindful that not all conservation practices are made equal, and not all conservation materials are truly pH neutral. For projects where conservation is priority consideration we can help guide you through the best methodology, and we are never too proud to consult with outside experts when we have our own questions!
What if I’m not happy with the end result?
Framing artwork is a very delicate process and there are lots of different elements to consider. While we try our best to help you create the best possible design, there is always a chance that when you get home, it just doesn’t feel right to you. We guarantee our customer satisfaction. That means if you are unhappy with your finished product for any reason whatsoever, we will reframe it for you free of charge up to your original purchase price! (this guarantee may not extend to certain hand carved/finished corner frames, or for large scal commercial projects where we cannot absorb the costs)
Can you match a picture frame from a photograph?
Absolutely we can - if you have a photograph of a picture frame that is still in production then chances are we can identify the manufacturer and item by sight alone! For custom designs or for frames that are no longer in production, we can work with you to create a bespoke replica picture frame.
Do you offer cleaning/restoration services?
We do offer limited cleaning/restoration services on picture frames and paintings, but not works on paper. We can create moulds to reproduce lost detail, and offer gold leaf restoration on antique picture frames. We have experience cleaning and doing minor repairs to paintings in a trained conservation environment, but for projects that require more extensive work or chemical analysis, we may refer you to other conservation specialists.
Do you stretch canvases?
Yes, we have a whole lot of experience stretching canvases! If you have an existing canvas that needs to be stretched we can match the depth of the original stretcher bars, using the highest quality of locally sourced kiln dried wood. For artists looking to get blank canvases, we offer a number of canvas materials including cotton duck and raw linen, and can create a variety of base gesso and primer compositions depending on the intended painting medium. We also have experience building wood panels/boxes.
Do you operate outside of Nashville?
We are an independent local business in the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood in South Nashville. While we do not have dedicated operations outside of the city, we are able to deliver and install outside of Davidson County. Some projects require outside assistance, and we have travelled out of state for installations in the past - let us know what you need and we will try to make it happen!
Are you available outside of your listed open hours?
Mangoe Arts & Framing is open for regular hours of Wednesday - Saturday from 10am - 5pm, and we reserve Tuesdays for installations and other off-site work. We may be able schedule an appointment outside of our regular hours if needed - let us know your situation and we will see what we can do!
Do you offer installation services?
Yes! We have experience installing at home, commercial, and museum/gallery environments. We have experience with numerous mounting methods including z-bars/cleats, locked security hardware, and controlled display cases. We are happy to do an onsite walkthrough to help decide where to hang your artwork, and of course we love any opportunity to help compose a gallery wall!
Will my framed art come with installation hardware ready?
Yes, all our frames come ready to install. Instead of using a wire that can leave artwork see-sawing at an angle, we make sure that all of our frames come with two hard points of contact so that they will always hang perfectly straight and secure! To make installation as simple as possible, all of our frames come provided with a custom wall-mounted template and miniature level. If you are anxious about installing yourself, we are always happy to offer our installation services.
Do you have experience with sculpture, and other forms of installation art?
We have experience with various non-traditional art installation and treatment methods. Certain large scale pieces of work may be outside our ability, but reach out and let us know what you are working with - we always love the opportunity to work on exciting projects!
Do you frame jerseys and other dimensional objects?
Yes, we have a wide range of shadowbox options to provide the depth required for jerseys and other dimensional objects. For fabrics, we typically use a dry cleaning method to clean and remove creases before creating a custom sized body insert, and hand stitching it down to a fabric backing. For non-fabric objects we can use a variety of mounting techniques, with an emphasis on avoiding non-conservation adhesives or invasive hardware if at all possible.
What is your typical turnaround time?
Our typical turnaround time is 2-3 weeks for most framing orders, though we may request additional time for larger framing projects. Some framing methods such as hand-carved/finished-corner frames or acrylic boxes may take longer (typically 6-8 weeks). That said, if you have an urgent project that needs to be rushed, we can usually work with you to get something framed within a few days - let us know your deadline and we will do whatever we can to make sure it is met!
Will you cut glass and matting if I bring in my own frame?
Yes, we are able to cut glass and mats separately. Whether it is an original frame that belongs with the artwork, or if it's just a frame that you happen to like and want to reuse, we are happy to help you upscale it. We just ask that you purchase the glass/matting through us directly.
Are you insured in case my artwork is damaged?
Yes; for your peace of mind and ours we have a very good insurance policy - but rest assured, we treat all work with the utmost care during every step of the framing process to ensure that we will never have to activate it!
